Stella Ioannidou is a multimedia artist, designer, and researcher based in New York and Athens. Her research-based practice is diverse in medium, encompassing experimental video essays, digital drawing, animation, writing, publishing, and web-based projects.

She has worked for and collaborated with the Center for Spatial Research, Visualizing Palestine, rePLACE Urban Studio, Simon and Schuster, the Temple Hoyne Buell Center, and NHDM. She teaches at The New School and at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University.

Her work has been exhibited internationally at the Gray Area (San Fancisco, US­– 2024), Bozar (Brussels, BE­– 2023), Kunsthal Aarhus (Aarhus, DE­– 2023), the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations | Mucem (Marseille, FR­– 2023) , Institut Francais de Alexandrie | IFE (Alexandria, EG­– 2023), Onassis Foundation (Athens, GR­– 2023), Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto (Biella, IT­– 2022),  the Venice Architecture Biennale 2021 (Venice,IT­– 2021), Arko Art Center (Seoul, KR-­– 2021) and more.

She has published visual and text essays in the Journal of Creative Geography, Urban Magazine, Funambulist Magazine, and Urban Omnibus.

Stella has received a tailor-made fellowship by the Onassis foundation for her work Elsewhere is a Negative Mirror, the William Kinne traveling fellowship for her project Visualizing Naqab and the KAIA grant for her Venice Architecture Biennale of 2021 project woven.care with Perennial Commons. She has participated in artist residencies at OnassisAiR (Athens,GR), Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto (Biella, IT), AllowingManyForms | AMF (Los Angeles,US), Mucem (Marseille, FR).

In her practice, Stella experiments with the flexibility of story-making, creative technology, and artistic intervention. She works to discover connections and possibilities between selves and worlds.

Stella holds a M.S. in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, and a Master of Architecture from GSAPP, Columbia University.
