Interactive collage, creative coding
This work interrogates the conditions of contemporary Greece, seeking to critically understand them through the lens of global post-colonial theories and to recapture its history as well as its relationship to the EU.
For this project, I am using and manipulating an excerpt from the broadcast of the military parade celebrating the 200th anniversary of the national revolution in Greece. This parade came at a time of internal turmoil and dissent against a government that is allocating resources toward exhibitions of nationalism and military and police equipment while the rest of the country is going through a 6 month long lockdown and the healthcare system is understaffed and crumbling.
I am using the technique of slitscanning (inspired by Zbigniew Rybczynski’s Fourth Dimension), creating an interactive collage that allows the audience to distort reality and reveal the surreal and uncanny, accentuating the absurdity of watching this military parade.
